Hi! I am Vinayak Mehta, also known as vortex_ape.

I love to write free and open-source code that helps other humans. I also like long-distance running, guitar playing (I have a black Strat!), stargazing and street photography. I like to talk about FOSS, API design, science fiction, time and the meaning of life, among other things.

I want to work on developing solutions for real world problems using computer science and software/data engineering. If you would like to talk more about why software is eating the world or a problem we can solve together, shoot me an email at vmehta94 at gmail dot com!

Currently, I'm working as a Data Engineer at Grofers in Bangalore, designing tools and services that help the organization become more data-driven.

Previously, I worked at SocialCops (now Atlan) in New Delhi (from June 2016 to July 2018), where I designed tools and services that made the data team's lives easier. I wrote about how I helped create a data platform for India and about one of the ETL workflows I built internally to track disease outbreaks in India on the SocialCops engineering blog.

I graduated with a Bachelors in Computer Science from Bharati Vidyapeeth's College of Engineering, New Delhi (in May 2016), where I worked broadly in Information Retrieval and Machine Learning, as a research scholar under Prof. Narina Thakur.
